Paiste/Ludwig Day

Fork’s Drum Closet will host Paiste/Ludwig Wednesday, May 8, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Representatives and artists from both percussion companies will be at the store to share product information.

Attendees can try out new drums.

There will also be giveaways while supplies last.

Paiste and Ludwig percussion products will also be on sale.

Hit Like a Girl

Hit Like a Girl is an international competition for female percussionists.

There are four age groups contestants enter, and each contestant must submit a three minute video showcasing their percussion skills.

Contestants must also make an account bio and use a recent picture.

The three categories used for judging are performance, presentation, and story.

There are even recommended back tracks for contests to use.

Over $60,000 are awarded every year, so enter online for a chance to win some money!

Music City Drum Corps

Music City Drum Corps (MCDC) is a world-class outdoor marching ensemble based in Nashville, Tennessee.

Musicians who are under 22 years old have the opportunity to audition for membership contracts. Then members perfect their marching show until championships in August.

This year, their show is called, “Of Mice and Music.”

In 2017, Drum Corps International (DCI) bumped MCDC from open class to world class in 2017, marking a new milestone in the ensemble’s history.

Their Family and Friends show will be June 22, where the ensemble will have a pre-competition season performance.

Roland Drum Day

Fork’s Drum Closet‘s Roland Drum Day on April 17 will feature a performance and clinic from percussionist Chad Wackerman and feature Roland products.

This event will last from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., with Wackerman’s feature starting at 6 p.m.

There will be Roland product specialists to inform attendees about using electronic equipment and about their products.

Special Roland drumming products will also be on sale, so stop by to pick up some equipment, learn something, and have fun!

Winter Guard International (WGI)

The 2019 Winter Guard International Championships are coming up!

Winter guards, percussion ensembles, and wind ensembles from across America to the University of Dayton, Ohio, to compete.

During these championships, vendors like Yamaha, Pearl, Majestic, and so many others will be selling instruments, equipment, and implements.

This is one of the most important competitive marching band events of the year, so stop by to hear some great music and to see what’s for sale.

Yamaha Young Performing Artists

Yamaha Young Performing Artists is an online competition where musicians submit solo audio recordings.

This competition is open to full-time students from ages 18-22.

Grand Prize winners can receive a passes for workshops and clinics and a free trip (and all expenses paid!) to Yamaha’s Young Performing Artist Celebration at the Music for All Summer Symposium.

The applications open September 14 and close December 19.

Prepare a solo piece for the chance to win the music experience of a lifetime!

Vol State Music Department Showcase

Volunteer State Community College will host the Annual Spring Concert and Original Songs showcase Saturday, April 27, from 7:30-10 p.m. in the Caudill auditorium.

The first half of this event will feature different ensembles from the different aspects of the department- like the bluegrass ensemble, Bluegrass Ablaze, and the show choir, the Showstoppers.

The second half of event will focus on the songs that are featured on the spring CD that the music department produces- which is completely made by Vol State.

Tickets to the event are $5 for those without their Vol State ID.

Nashville Symphony

The Nashville Symphony is one of the capitol’s most iconic aspects of the city’s music culture.

Based in the architecturally elegant Schermerhorn Symphony Center, the ensemble appeals to people’s classic and refined senses.

This summer, on June 11, the symphony will host the Nashville Symphony by the Lake event at Historic Rock Castle, playing traditional music to celebrate heritage.

This is the third year Rock Castle hosted this event.

This concert is free and open to the public.

SCGC Championships

The Southeastern Color Guard Circuit (SCGC) Championships are this weekend, where wind ensembles, indoor drum lines, and winter guards will compete for southeastern championships.

The event will take place in Western Kentucky University’s “Diddle Arena.”

Many of the participating ensembles are scholastic, meaning they are affiliated with a school district, instead of being independent.

Two notable world-class ensembles competing in percussion are Audio Theater and Music City Mystique, both indoor drum lines that are based out of Nashville, Tennessee.
